Emma Maersk, this is the largest container ship in the world, and also the largest ship currently operating on the sea. (Some larger oil tankers like Knock Nevis have now ceased operations and been converted into floating storage units). Since its launch, Emma Maersk has been operating on the Europe – Far East route via the Suez Canal. The name of this vessel was bestowed on August 12, 2006, in memory of the late Emma Maersk (who passed away in December 2005), the wife of the conglomerate’s chairman, Mærsk Mc-Kinney Møller. Their youngest daughter (then serving as Vice Chairman of the conglomerate) and her husband, Peder Uggla, named the ship.
