Jeremiah O’Brien is an EC2-S-CI class ship, constructed in just 56 days at the New England Shipbuilding Corporation in South Portland, Maine and launched on June 19, 1943. Deployed in the European Theater of Operations, it completed four voyages – transatlantic crossings, and was part of the invasion fleet for Operation Neptune on D-Day. The ship made 11 round trips across the Channel to support the invasion. Subsequently, it was deployed to the Pacific Theater of Operations and served for 16 months in both the South Pacific and Indian Ocean, visiting ports in Chile, Peru, New Guinea, the Philippines, India, China and Australia.
