Mary Rose was a warship of the English Navy during the reign of King Henry VIII of the Tudor dynasty. Mary Rose was built in 1510 in Portsmouth and launched in July 1511. After 33 years of service in wars against France, Scotland, and Brittany and after being upgraded in 1536, she undertook her final action on July 19, 1545. While leading an attack on a French galley fleet, she capsized in the Solent.
After more than 400 years at the bottom of the sea, Mary Rose was found and raised in 1982. Part of the ship and its artifacts are displayed at the Mary Rose Museum in Portsmouth, England, giving people and visitors the opportunity to explore and learn about the ship’s history and that period.
