Deutschland, World Odyssey from September to April since 2015, is a cruise ship operated by MS “Deutschland” Beteiligungsgesellschaft after the bankruptcy of the shipping company Peter Deilmann. In another bankruptcy procedure, the ship was sold in March 2015 to a US company using it for Semester at Sea organization. Until sold, Deutschland was the last ocean cruise ship flying the German flag. Its home port is Neustadt in Holstein.
The ship was designed for world cruises, laid down on December 1, 1996, at Howaldtswerke-Deutsche Werft AG (HDW) in Kiel with the hull number 328. Delivery to the shipping company took place on May 11, 1998, after former Federal President Richard von Weizsäcker performed the christening ceremony. On May 16, 1998, the ship Deutschland left Norway on its maiden voyage.
The décor style of Deutschland is based on the style of large hotels of the 1920s. Elements of classical style, Art Nouveau, and decorative art can be found in cabins and public areas. The ship has been awarded the highest rating “5-star superior” by the DEHOGA hotel classification committee.
