The Shtandart frigate, known in Russian as Штандартъ, holds the distinction of being the first ship in Russia’s Baltic fleet. Construction of this vessel began on April 24, 1703, at the Olonetsky shipyard, following orders from Tsar Peter I and direction from Commander Aleksandr Menshikov. Built under the close supervision of the tsar himself, the ship was crafted by Dutch shipwright Vybe Gerens.
As the first flagship of the Imperial Russian Navy, the Shtandart served until 1727. The name Shtandart was later used for the royal yachts of the tsars until the 1917 Russian Revolution, with the final yacht of the series belonging to Tsar Nicholas II.
