Product information Le Boreal Cruise Ship Model:

The SS Leonardo da Vinci was an ocean liner built in 1960 by the Ansaldo shipyard in Italy for the Italian Line to replace their lost SS Andrea Doria in 1956. Initially, it was used on the transatlantic service along with the SS Cristoforo Colombo, and primarily for cruising after the delivery of the new ships SS Michelangelo and SS Raffaello in 1965. In 1976, the Leonardo da Vinci became the Italian Line’s last passenger liner used for transatlantic service across the North Atlantic. From 1977 to 1978, it was operated by Italia Crociere as a cruise ship but was laid up from 1978 onwards until its scrapping in 1982.

Named after the famed Italian inventor and artist Leonardo da Vinci, the ship featured several technological advancements, including the ability to convert to nuclear power.

The exterior design of the Leonardo da Vinci closely resembled that of the Andrea Doria and Cristoforo Colombo. However, it was 19 meters (62.34 ft) longer, with larger forward and aft superstructures, and a slightly different smokestack design including a smoke deflector wing. Additionally, it lacked any cargo derricks on the aft deck, resulting in a larger lido area compared to its close sister ships.

Externally, it was one of the most uniquely balanced ships of its era (or perhaps any), initially painted similarly to the scheme used on the Andrea Doria and Cristoforo Colombo, with a black hull and a thin white stripe painted vertically along 2/3 of the length of the hull, rising from the bottom of the black paint area. In 1966, its paint scheme (like all Italian Line ships) was changed to match the design used on the Michelangelo and Raffaello, with a white hull and a thin green stripe painted at the top edge of the previous black hull color.
