The USS Texas (BB-35) stands today as a museum vessel, once a formidable member of the New York-class battleships in the United States Navy. Launched on May 18, 1912, it entered into service on March 12, 1914.
During its time in service, Texas patrolled Mexican waters following the “Tampico Incident” during World War I. Despite numerous sorties into the North Sea, she never encountered enemy vessels, firing its medium-caliber guns primarily at perceived submarine threats, which were later discovered to be natural phenomena. Transitioning into World War II, Texas escorted convoys across the Atlantic and provided naval support during significant operations such as the North African Landings against Vichy French forces and the Normandy Landings against German-held beaches.
