Hector is renowned for being part of the first significant migration of Scottish settlers to Nova Scotia in 1773. A replica of the original ship is located at Hector Heritage Quay, a heritage center operated by local volunteers in Pictou, Nova Scotia. Her famous voyage took place in 1773.
In the late 1980s and early 1990s, heritage officials in Nova Scotia sought to commemorate Hector’s contribution to Nova Scotia’s Scottish history. In 1992, the Ship Hector Foundation was established by a group of volunteers from Pictou County and other areas, who began fundraising to build, maintain, and operate the replica of Hector.
