The RMS Queen Mary 2 (also referred to as QM2) is a transatlantic ocean liner of the United Kingdom. It serves as the flagship of the Cunard Line since succeeding Queen Elizabeth 2 in 2004. As of 2020, the Queen Mary 2 is the only purpose-built transatlantic passenger ship, in contrast to a cruise ship.
The ship was officially named Queen Mary 2 by Queen Elizabeth II in 2004, following the original RMS Queen Mary in 1936. The Queen Mary was named after Mary of Teck, the consort of King George V. After Queen Elizabeth 2 retired in 2008, the Queen Mary 2 became the only ocean liner regularly operating between Southampton, UK, and New York City, USA. The ship is also used for cruises, including an annual world cruise.
