SS Andrea Doria was an Italian ocean liner, operated by Societa di Navigazione Italia, with its home port in Genoa, Italy. It is best known for its sinking in 1956, during which of the 1.706 passengers and crew on board, 1,660 were rescued while 46 lost their lives.

Named after the 16th century Genoese admiral Andrea Doria, the ship had a gross registered tonnage of 29,100 and could accommodate approximately 1.200 passengers, and 500 crew members.

Among all Italian ships at the time, Andrea Doria was the largest, fastest, and considered the safest. It was launched on June 16, 1951, and embarked on its maiden voyage on January 14, 1953.
